CitySocialising: About us

CitySocialising Birmingham and Coventry: Networking and making friends in Birmingham and Coventry.

CitySocialising began in London in January 2005, set up with start-up funding from the Prince's Trust, and was created to help young professional newcomers to London integrate more easily into life in the Capital by guiding them round the city's social scene and connecting them with like minded others so they could create new networks of friends to enjoy life in the city with.

Now over half of our members in the Capital are seasoned London professionals seeking an easy and relaxed way to platonically meet new local people, with no dating undertones, games or gimmicks, to kick start their social lives and expand their existing circle of friends beyond their usual social/work crowd, making the most of London's vibrant social scene in the process.

Because of the fantastic response to CitySocialising in London, and the positive impact on the lives of over 10,000 young professionals there, in October 2007 a CitySocialising site and service was launched in Birmingham and Coventry, and eight other UK cities, and we now help our fast-growing community of over 17,000 members across the UK to form their own local networks of new friends, connect with like minded others and enjoy life in their city to the max!

The idea for CitySocialising came from our research into the social requirements of professionals living and working in UK cities. We found that a huge percentage of those in their 20s and 30s were particularly keen to expand their real world social networks, and identified that this was because:
  • There's a higher likelihood of people in this age group relocating to new cities for work or with partners, arriving with none or few friends in the area.

  • Existing friends are more likely to be settling in relationships or moving away in their 20s & 30s, meaning that finding new friends to socialise with is more appealing.

  • Social lives can become stale and opportunities to meet new people are reduced, so the desire to meet new and interesting people outside the office or usual social crowd becomes more important.

  • Increasing demands at work allows less time to organise the social lives that suit them, and a lack of inside information about a city's social scene limits one from choosing the social life most relevant to them.
CitySocialising combines a unique online and offline approach to meeting, connecting and socialising with fun-loving, down-to-earth and sociable city professionals who live or work in the same areas, share the same interests and outlook. We organise an offline program of regular social days and nights out ('Socials') and support these with online social networking features to help members find the friends that suit them, get in touch and stay in touch.
